Trader shot dead in Jaffna Islet

A 57-year father of five from Vealanai East in Jaffna Islets was shot dead by unknown gunmen riding in a motorbike at 12:00 noon Sunday, sources in Jaffna said. The man was buying goods for his trading business in Vealanai when the gunmen following the victim shot him from behind and escaped, according to eyewitnesses.

Kayts police recovered Mr Karthigesu Rajaratnam's body and transferred the body to Jaffna Teaching Hospital Sunday afternoon, hospital sources said.

Kayts district court judge has directed Kayts Police to begin investigations into the killing.
