Thenmaraadchi youth seeks protection at HRC

Amid escalating numbers of youths, especially high school children, surrendering at the Jaffna Human Rights Commission (HRC) offices seeking protective custody through the Jaffna Courts, another youth from Thenmaraadchi was placed in protective custody Sunday, HRC officials said.

Increasing abductions, killings, and threat to lives of Thenmaraadchi youths by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and SLA-backed paramilitaries, several young men from Thenmaraadchi are using the HRC to appear before courts requesting protective custody in Jaffna prison, civil society sources in Thenmaraadchi said.
