The prices of fuel and other essential goods have soared beyond the reach of ordinary citizens of Sri Lanka due to the war waged by Sri Lanka government, United National Party (UNP) Women's Front, Colombo District Organizer, Rosy Senanayake said, after participating in a protest demonstration Tuesday from 10.30 a.m to 12:00 noon in front of Colombo Fort Railway station, to highlight the burdens faced by the public due to increase in Cost of Living (CoL).
UNP Women's Front Parliamentarians Thalatha Athukorala, Siriyani Bandara and Renuka Herath, along with Rosy Senanayake voiced their strongest protests in the demonstration, highlighting the rise in prices of essential commodities including children's milk powder which directly impacts pregnant women and average citizens of Sri Lanka. The high number Sri Lankan Ministerial posts is yet another major reason for the spiraling cost of living in Sri Lanka, Rosy Sennanyake said, speaking to the media. The members of the UNP Women's Front took part in the demonstrations carrying placards condemning the Sri Lanka government for indulging in a war which has caused prices of essential commodities to rise beyond the reach of ordinary people.
