627 IDPs affected by Jaundice in Batticaloa

627 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Batticaloa district are infected by jaundice, Dr.S.Thadchanamoorthy, the medical officer in charge of infectious disease control said Monday afternoon. In Vavu'natheevu alone, 328 civilians, most of them children, have been affected by the disease, according to the medical officer.

The main reason for the spread of this disease was the non availability of clean water supply for the displaced civilians, Dr.S.Thadchanamoorthy added.

Office of the Deputy Director of Heath services is conducting awareness programs related to the disease, health officials said.
