Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in Jaffna announced a half hour cut in the curfew hours, only in the Nalloor Divisional Secretariat area, in response to requests made by Chaiva devotees to relax the SLA imposed curfew on the entire Jaffna peninsula, enabling them to attend annual Nalloor Kanthasaamy Koayil festivals. According to SLA the normal curfew hours starting from 7:00 p.m to 4:30 a.m will remain unchanged in Jaffna peninsula except in Nalloor Divisional Secretariat area where the curfew period will be from 7:30 p.m to 4:30 a.m, during the current temple festival.
The devotees from the rest of the Jaffna peninsula will not be able to attend the festivals fully as they have to return early to their homes quite far from Nalloor, so as to keep to the curfew hours, Chaiva religious society members in Jaffna said.
