Farmer shot dead in Vara'ni, Thenmaraadchi

A 35-year old farmer was shot dead in Vara'ni, Yakkaalai area in Thenmaraadchi at 11:00 a.m. Saturday by two unknown armed men, sources in Thenmaraadchi said. The attackers went to the victim's house, called the victim to come out of the house and shot him at point blank range before escaping the site.

The victim, Shanmugarajah Sasikaran, died on the spot.

Local residents allege that the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) suspects that Liberation Tigers' cadres have infiltrated into Thenmaraadchi area, and the increased killings in the district are the result of SLA's attempt to contain the infiltration and to terrorize the locals into not providing support to the Tigers.
