Moothoor, Champoor IDPs being forcibly resettled­ - MP

The Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) is taking hurried, ill co-ordinated steps to force Internally Displaced people (IDPs) from Moothoor and Champoor to resettle in other areas, K. Thurairatnasingham, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian for Trincomalee district told media Tuesday.

MR.Thurairatnasingham said that the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) is taking steps to resettle these civilians displaced by military offensives in Iraalkuzhi village located north of Moothoor between Ki’n’niyaa region and also in Thangkuveali located 9 k.m.from Ki’liveddi. He pointed out since the water from Mahaweli river rises up to five feet and flows through Thangkuveali, people do not settle in the said low-lands.

Stating that it is human rights violation to forcibly resettle civilians against their wish in areas not suitable for settlement, the MP accused that GOSL was getting ready to declare Moothoor and Champoor as High Security Zones (HSZ) and create Sinhala colonizations in these areas.
