MPCS president attacked

(Corrected) Suppiah Veerasingam, the President of Multi Purpose Co- operative Society (MPCS), Vavuniya was shot by 3 unidentified gun men outside his house at Nelukulam, 4 miles west of Vavuniya town, along the Vavuniya-Mannar road around 8.30 pm today.
He was rushed to the base hospital in Vavuniya with gunshot injuries in his stomach. After first aid treatment he was immediately transferred to Anuradhpura hospital for further treatment. Relatives said 2 unidentified gunmen had gone to his house while he was having his dinner and had asked him to come out of the house to be questioned. The family members felt something had gone wrong and the children in the family had started to scream. One of the gunmen had threatened the children that he would charge the grenade he held unless they stopped screaming. Another gunman had gone into the house and had ordered all the residents of the house, except Veerasingam, to go into a room and locked the room door. Then Veerasingam had been taken to the road in front of the house, the residents of the house locked inside a room had heard to shots being fired from a gun. All of them had shouted and with the help of the neighbours they had come out of the house and gone to see the injured. He was immediately rushed to the hospital with injuries in his stomach.
