A young family man who had been shot and seriously injured 18 August sought protection with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna office Thursday, being again threatened to death, allegedly by armed paramilitary members collaborating with Sri Lanka Army (SLA). The family man was placed in the protective custody of Jaffna prison through the Jaffna Courts.
The family man who had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in Jaffna hospital after the shooting had recovered only a few days ago, hospital sources said. Unidentified armed men had called the family man out of his house at Kanagaratnam Road in Ariyaalai, Jaffna and sprayed bullets on him. The family man, earlier injured in personal land mine explosion, has been living with a prosthetic leg.
