A Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier was killed and four injured Tuesday afternoon in a artillery and rocket fire duel between Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the Forward Defence Line (FDL) positions in Naakarkoayil and Mukamaalai, SLA media sources said. The duel continues Wednesday with both sides intensifying the attacks.
Though SLA released reports on Tuesday casualty and injury, no information is available about Wednesday clashes. Tension prevails in the areas close to northern FDL positions as residents fear clashes intensifying further during the coming days. Meanwhile, SLA has strengthened security measures in the FDL positions in Jaffna peninsula. Tuesday and Wednesday, all passengers, including students on their way to school, in the vehicles entering Jaffna town were asked to alight and subjected to thorough check by SLA troops. Earlier, the students were permitted to remain in the vehicles during checks. The students and other civilians had to wait for many hours along the road due to the SLA checking.
