Civilian abducted, 3 seek HRC protection in Jaffna

Armed men in a white van abducted a family man Monday around 2:40 a.m, from
his house at Navaali north in Jaffna, after assaulting his family members,
according to complaints made by them to Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna.
Meanwhile, three civilians, from Chaavakachcheari north, Maanipaay, and
Kamparmalai, sought protection with Jaffna HRC due to death threats from Sri
Lanka Army (SLA) and SLA-backed paramilitaries.
The civilian abducted is identified as Kanapathipillai Tharumesan, 34, a father of 4
children. Two daily labourers, one from Chaavakachcheari north in Thenmaraadchi and
the other from Kamparmalai in Vadamaraadchi, both aged 23, sought HRC
protection Monday. The third to seek protection with HRC is a 35-year-old family man, a father
of 3 children from Kankasabai Veethi in Maanipaay, Jaffna.
