Two civilians seek protection with HRC, youth abducted in Jaffna

Two more civilians in Jaffna peninsula, one of them a University student receiving death threats from paramilitary personnel, have surrendered to the officials at the Jaffna office of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) Wednesday. One of the protections seekers is from Chavakachcheari, Mirusuvil in Thenmaraadchi and the other is from Thunnaalai in Vadamaraadchi. There is a sharp increase in the number of receiving death threats from Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops and SLA-backed paramilitary armed men.
HRC officials are taking steps to keep then protective custody in Jaffna prison. Meanwhile a youth was abducted from his home in Arumuganavalar Road, Chu'ndikkuzhi at 3:30 a.m. by unidentified gun men. The victim has been identified as Vinayagamoorthy Anuraj, 20. The relatives have already lodged a complaint with HRC officials regarding the abducted youth.
