3 disappear in Jaffna, 3 surrender at HRC

Two civilians have been abducted by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers, one has disappeared, and three youths have surrendered with the Human Rights Council (HRC) offices in Jaffna in the last two days, HRC officials said.
Parameswaran Nanthakumar, 26, was abducted by SLA soldiers at 7:00 a.m. Thursday, his mother said in a complaint filed with the HRC offices. SLA soldiers had come to Nanthakumar's house and had forcibly taken him. Meanwhile, Masilamany Viyagarajah, 38, from Pandaitharippu in Navaali Jaffna has gone missing from noon Thursday after he went to recover his National ID from the SLA camp in Navaali, the complaint registered at the HRC by his relatives said. Poopalasingam Mahinthan, 18, owner of a bicycle repair shop from Vadaliyadaippu in Pandaitharippu Jaffna, has disappeared from Wednesday morning after going for work. Meanwhile three youths, all aged 23, from Thenmaraadchi and Vadamaraadchi districts have surrendered at the HRC Thursday seeking safety from death threats from SLA soldiers and SLA-backed paramilitaries, officials at the HRC said.
