Education officials collect census of Batticaloa School children

A survey to collect particulars of the school children in Batticaloa district affected by continuing hostilities and natural disasters began October 2nd, Mr.A.M.E.Paul, Batticaloa district Zonal Director of Education, said Sunday morning.

The census is aimed at providing the students alternate means to continue their studies.

Three hundred enumerators have been already appointed to collect student data for this census funded by United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)

The census is being conducted in the Zonal educational divisions in Kalkudaa, Paddiruppu and Batticaloa centre. Separate questionnaires have been distributed to 144,000 families in the district and trained enumerators are expected complete the survey within a month.
