Hair-dresser father, son shot dead in Vavuniyaa

A father and son, both hair-dressers were shot dead in Vavuniyaa by unknown gunmen in two separate incidents 15 minutes apart, the first killing occurring at 12:00 noon Wednesday, sources in Vavuniyaa said.

Ramanan, 21, was shot dead near Paaddaa'likkaadu in Vavuniya at 12:00 noon.

Ramanan's father, Ravichandrarajah, 43, was shot dead at 12:15 p.m. near Ku'lumaaddu Chanthi in Kaaththaan Koaddam, Vavuniyaa.

Police brought both bodies to Vavuniyaa Government Hospital at 3.30 p.m., hospital sources said.

The family is originally from Jaffna, later displaced to Ki'linochchi, and has been living in Vavuniyaa for several years.

The hair dressing saloon owned by the father was set on fire by unknown person in August. Ravichandrarajah moved to a different business premise and continued to conduct business after the arson.
