[TamilNet, Sunday, 22 November 1998, 22:51 GMT]
All vehicles entering the capital Colombo will be searched before they are allowed to enter, said the Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Western Province today. He said that the Police had to tighten security in the capital as the Liberation Tigers mark 'Maveerar' Day (Heroes' Day- commemoration of war dead).
Meanwhile the state radio said today that the unlawful detention and harassment of Tamils had been reduced after the anti- harassment committee, appointed by the president, began to function. Elsewhere in the northern Jaffna peninsula one of the six Sri Lankan Army soldiers who went in a patrol unit has been reported missing in the Chulipuram area, said sources. Following this the Army cordoned off the area and searched for the missing soldier. The SLA cordoned off the Malvathai, Puloly and Chalaiady areas of Pt. Pedro and conducted house to house searches from 5.30 a.m. today, November 22.
