Curfew brings uneasy calm to Vadamaraadchi

During the 24-hour curfew Sunday, uneasy calm prevailed in Vadamaraadchi area as residents stayed indoors, businesses remained closed, and no vehicular or pedestrians used the interior and main roads in the district. Fishing along coastal areas were suspended as thousands of fishermen were confined to their fishing hamlets, civil society sources in Jaffna said.

Residents also reported that no cordon and search operations took place during the day.

Although exchange of artillery fire in Mukamaalai and Naakar Koayil areas between Liberation Tigers and Sri Lanka Army (SLA) were reported Sunday morning, no major movements SLA convoys were seen in any of the link roads connecting Vadamaraadchi East Forward Defence Lines (FDLs) and Palaali military base.
