Family man shot dead in Ea'raavoor

Paramilitary men who knocked the doors of a 55-year-old farmer (Poadiyaar) in Vanthaa'rumoolai, shot him dead Friday early morning around 1:10. The victim, Kannaayiram Peethamparam, a father of three, was shot in his chest and hands with 7.62 mm rounds that are used in T-56 assault rifles, according to the Police. Vanthaa'rumoolai is located 17 km northwest of Batticaloa city.

Residents in the area alleged that the killing was carried out by the TMVP (Karuna) group.

The victim has agricultural lands in a territory that has been under the control of the Liberation Tigers until the recent SLA offensives in Batticaloa.

Ea'raavoor police is conducting investigations into the killing.
