Pressure mine explosion kills civilian in Kanniya

A Tamil civilian transporting firewood in his cart was killed in a pressure mine explosion Monday evening at Kanniya village, sources in Trincomalee said. The victim has been a resident of Theva Nagar, a suburb in Trincomalee.

The victim was returning with several others after collecting firewood in the jungles of Kanniya when their cart hit a pressure mine. The cart was destroyed and the victime died on the spot.

The victim has not been identified yet, and his body is lying in the Trincomalee general hospital, sources said.

Kanniya village is located about 8 km off northwest of Trincomalee town and comes under the Uppuveli police division.
