Armed men in a white van abducted Wednesday around 7:00 a.m an elderly man residing in the High Security Zone (HSZ) of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in Kuppi'laan north in Eazhaa'lai in Valikaamam north, according to complaints made to Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna, Wednesday noon by his relatives.
The abducted elderly man is Sivaguru Panchalingam, 66, a social worker actively engaged in trying redeeming civilian residences occupied by SLA in his area. Two armed men on motor cycle had first arrived at Panchalingam's house Wednesday around 7:00 a.m and just within 5 minutes the abductors had come in a white van and took him away forcibly, Panchalingam was living alone in his house as his wife and children are abroad. His house is close to SLA Front Defence Line (FDL) positions in Valikaamam north and the abduction would not have escaped the notice of the SLA troopers who were present there, the complainants said to HRC.
