The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Tuesday instructed the state owned Ceylon Transport Board (CTB) and the private sector bus association not to run daily bus services to other districts after 4.30 p.m. and local services after 5.30 p.m. from Mannaar district. The SLA told the authorities concerned that the restriction has been imposed due to security reason, and the restrictions will be in effect until further notice.
The CTB and private sector have been conducting bus services from two main bus stands located in the Mannaar Island, to the districts of Colombo, Vavuniyaa, Batticaloa, Puttalam, Kalpity, and Trincomalee. Local bus services to Talaimannaar, Pe'saalai, Erukalampiddy, Thaalvupadu, Karisal and Thaarapuram are available from these bus terminals. The SLA authorities have asked the CTB and private sector association not to run daily local services to Murunkan, Uyilankulam, and Nanattan from Mannaar Island after 4.30 p.m.
