General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Indian Army Southern Command Lieutenant General Noble Thamburaj on Wednesday categorically denied that the Tigers pose any specific threat to the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Addressing reporters in Chennai, the high-ranking officer of the Indian Army noted: "the LTTE has become a political and emotive issue here. We see no threat from the outfit as of now." "Following the recent offensive by the Sri Lankan army, the influx of refugees to Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu has increased which is being monitored round-the-clock," Lt Gen Thamburaj said and added that the Indian Navy and the Coast Guard were on constant vigil to prevent the intrusion of any unfriendly elements through Indian territorial waters.
