UN envoy meets displaced in Eachchilampattu, Batticaloa

United Nations Special Commissioner for Human Rights Tuesday and Wednesday inspected the situation in the districts of Trincomalee and Batticaloa where hundreds of displaced Tamil families fled from their own villages and sheltered in transit centres awaiting for resettlement.

He visited transit centres located at Eachchilampattu where displaced families are sheltered and discussed their problems with representatives of displaced community and officials who are in charge of their maintenance.

Later, he visited Batticaloa and viewed the condition of the displaced sheltered in temporary structures. Displaced from Moothoor and still sheltered in temporary huts in Batticaloa aired their grievances to the UN Special High Commissioner for Human Rights, Batticaloa district secretariat sources said.
