STF shoots dead Tamil youth in Ka’luvaagnchchikudi

Sri Lanka Task Force (STF) commandos shot and killed a Tamil youth Saturday night on Ka’luthaava’lai beach, Ka’luvaagnchchikudi police said. The police claimed that the youth was a member of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), and STF commandos fired at him when he tried to lodge a hand grenade on an STF road patrol unit.

The victim was identified as Selvanayagam Arulnathan, 25.

STF claimed they recovered a hand grenade from the youth.

Arulnathan’s body is kept in Ka’luvaangchchikudi hospital.

No one has claimed the body until Sunday evening.

Ka’luvaangchchikudi police are conducting investigation into the killing.

The youth may be from Ka’luthaava’lai area, or arrested and brought to Ka’luthaava’lai, local residents said.

Ka’luthaava’lai is located south of Batticaloa town.
