Travel between North, South suspended

Sri Lanka police in Vavuniya Sunday early morning suspended all passenger services between south and north until further notice due to security reasons. All trains from Colombo to Vavuniya Saturday night were stopped at Madawaachchi while all travel services from Vavuniya to north were stopped at Vavuniya.

Passengers in the train stopped at Madawaachchi are stranded while people who wanted to travel south by bus were stopped at Vavuniyaa bus stand, sources in Vavuniyaa said.

People are undergoing severe hardship as this suspension is imposed until further notice.

Civil society source sais the transport services are expected to return to normal after the Independence Day celebrations Monday.
