World Food Programme visits Vavuniya

A team from the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Director Social Services visited Vavuniya today. They were considering the possibility of extending WFP assistance to the internally displaced persons in the welfare centers in the army controlled areas of Vavuniya and Mannar districts, said K.Ganesh, the government agent of Vavuniya.

There are more than 15,000 displaced people in 14 welfare centers in Vavuniya.

The team visited the welfare centers at Poonthoddam, Nelukulam and Veppankulam. They will visit Cheddikulam and Mannar district tomorrow, he added.

Dominique Frankefort, the Project Director of the WFP, M.S.M.Azmey National Programme Officer of the WFP are the two members of the team accompanied by N.D.Hettiarachch,i Director of Social Services.
