SLA soldier injured in Chengkaladi grenade attack

An unidentified person lobbed a hand grenade Saturday around 8:15 p.m on a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) road clearance unit at Chengkaladi area in Ea'raavoor police division in Batticaloa district, seriously injuring a soldier.
The attacker had lain in ambush and hurled the grenade on the SLA unit. The injured soldier was rushed to Pollanaruwa Base Hospital. SLA troops arrested six Tamil youths in the search conducted immediately after the attack. The SLA troops handed over the six Tamil youths to Ea’raavoor police after interrogation. The arrested youths were later released by the police. The six youths, J. Murali, S. Ramanan, M. Mohanraj, S. Sukirtharaj, K. Thayaparan and S. Raveenthiranath, are from Chengkaladi and Ea’raavoor areas. Chengkaladi is located 15 km north of Batticaloa town.
