The annual festival of the historical Keerimalai Nakuleasvara Saiva temple located in Sri Lanka Army (SLA) High Security Zone (HSZ) will begin on Friday and continue until 7 March, and the SLA command in Jaffna will allow devotees to go through its check posts in Cheanthaangku’lam and Thellippazhai SLA Front Defence Line (FDL) area in Valikaamam north, the chief priest of the temple, Rajaraja Sri K. Nakuleaswara Kurukkal said.
The devotees will be allowed to enter the temple area from 9:00 a.m each day of the festivals. In 2007, SLA troops did not permit large number of devotees to participate in the temple festivals. Those who were allowed to attend the festival were subjected to rigorous checking. School children wishing to take part in group worship have to obtain prior permission from the SLA. Special prayers will be offered this year to bring peace to Sri Lanka and enable the Internally Displaced People (IDP) in Jaffna peninsula to settle in their own places occupied by SLA.
