Dry fish Trader shot dead in Negombo

Unidentified men operating in a white van shot and killed a dry fish trader Tuesday night 10:00p.m. in Negombo, Negombo police said.

The victim is identified as Varnakulasooriya Christy Fernando, 56, a resident of Rosary road, Negombo.

The victim arrested June 17, 2006 for allegedly supplying a speed boat fitted with a powerful engine to Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was later released on bail and had visited the office of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Colombo every 14 days and the unidentified men who came to the victims house Wednesday night were dressed in police uniform, the children of the victim told Negombo police.

Negombo police have commenced investigation into the killing.
