Election violences escalate in Ea’raavoor

Two incidents of election related violence, one involving a hand grenade and the other altercation during an election meeting, occurred Wednesday night 11:00 p.m.in Ea’raavoor within Batticaloa District, Ea’raavoor police said.
While an election propaganda meeting was being held Wednesday night in Ea’raavoorpattu by Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) backed United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA), the public who gathered at the venue pelted stones at the platform disrupting the meeting.M.V.Usanaar , addressing the gathering at that time was seriously injured during the incident and has been admitted at Batticaloa Teaching Hospital. In another incidence in the same night, a hand grenade was thrown at the Michchinagar residence of Pakeerthambi Zainudeen, a candidate of an independent group contesting in Ea’raavoorpattu Pradeshiya Sabha causing damage to the front portion of the house, police said.
