Court advises Police to release PTA detainees held without charges

The Supreme Court Tuesday in a fundamental right violation application inquiry advised the law enforcement authority to take steps to release without further delay all suspects detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) for a longer periods without any evidence against them, and to file indictments against suspects if evidence against them is available, legal sources said.
Chief Judge Mr.Sarath Silva made the above observation when the hearing on a FR petition filed by a detainee in Boosa detention camp was taken for hearing. The detainee complaint against his continuous detention without being produced in court, legal sources said. The petitioner is a native of Kaithady in Jaffna district.
