Fish trader abducted in Jaffna

Unidentified armed men forcibly abducted a fish trader Friday morning near ‘Bishop’s House’ in Jaffna, sources in Jaffna said. Local residents allege he was arrested by the police, but the Jaffna Police did not leave any arrest documents with the family of the victim.

The fish trader, a young family man and the father of a 5-year-old daughter, had been involved in fish trade, transporting fish from Jaffna to Colombo in refrigerated vehicles (cooler) before the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) closure of A9 land route to Jaffna.

The trader had returned home from Colombo Thursday evening.

The armed men had surrounded the trader’s house and abducted him after searching the house, sources in Jaffna said.
