SL parliament to debate emergency extension

The United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government led by Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapakse is to seek the permission of the House to extend the State of Emergency for another month during this session, after Sri Lanka's parliament resumes sitting on Tuesday March 4. parliamentary sources said.
Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake is to table the motion to extend the State of Emergency on March 5 in parliament. The State of Emergency was imposed on August 12, 2005. Since then it is being extended every month with the approval of the parliament, sources said The Bill on University of Vocational Technology to be set up to impart higher education in vocational technology at university level will also be taken up for debate on March 4, parliamentary sources added.
