7 prisoners escape from Wariyapola jail

Seven prisoners Sunday afternoon escaped from Wariyapola prison in Kurunagala district in the northwestern province. Two of them were later arrested, but the rest are at large. Police have launched an operation to apprehend the escapees who are said to be hiding in Narammala in Kuliyapitya division, media sources said.

Last week five prisoners were shot dead when a group of prisoners escaped from Kuruwita jail.

Four were shot dead by prison guards. One prisoner was shot dead by the police when he attempted to throw a grenade at the police.
