Fish vendor injured in shooting incident dies

The fish vendor shot and seriously injured in the shooting incident Thursday around 10:00 a.m in Jaffna succumbed to his injuries in the Intensive Care Unit of Jaffna Teaching hospital Thursday evening.

The victim was identified as Loganathan Vasantharoopan, 24. He and prospective married had completed registration ceremony and were planning to get married soon.

Unidentified armed men forcibly took Vasantharoopan on their motor cycle to Chinnakkadai market area in Jaffna, opened fire on him and fled from the scene.

People in the area rushed Vasantharoopan to Jaffna Teaching Hospital where he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit.

He succumbed to his wounds despite several hours of treatment.

Meanwhile, the person shot and killed at Kaladdiyamman Koayiladi Thursday morning around 8:30 a.m was identified as Sinnathurai Sivanesan, 33, a family man, the owner of a communication centre.

Unknown armed men on motor cycle shot and killed him in his communication centre, the police said.

Sivanesan who was rushed to Jaffna Teaching Hospital died immediately, hospital sources said.
