Twenty six officers from the Sri Lankan security forces, including one SLAF officer, graduated in military science for the first time in Sri Lanka. The certificates for the degree were awarded by General Anurudha Ratwatte, the Duputy Minister of Defence.
The convocation took place at the Bandaranayake Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) yesterday (23), and the Deputy Minister of Defence attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Due to the shortage of officers needed for the continuing war in the north eastern parts of the island, the government of Sri Lanka was compelled to open a local institute for higher studies in the field of military science, sources said. Such an institute was opened last year at Sapugaskande a suburb, a few miles from Colombo city. Sources said that arrangements are underway to open another military school for officers at Battalanda near Colombo.
