Two new MPs to take oaths on Tuesday

Two new parliamentarians, Dulip Wijesekara and Sarana Gunawardene, from the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) will take oaths in Sri Lankan parliament when the parliament meets Tuesday after the New Year break, parliamentary sources said.
The seat fell vacant with the killing of Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, a minister in the UPFA government on April 6 in a suicide bomb blast will be filled by Dulip Wijesekara, and Sarana Gunawardene will fill the vacancy following the demise of Anura Bandaranaike, son of two prime ministers of Sri Lanka. Dulip Wijesekara currently holds the post of Minister of Co-operatives in the Western Provincial Council and Sarana Gunawardene is currently a member of the National Lotteries Board. Both new parliamentarians polled highest number of votes in the Gampaha district list of the UPFA after late Jeyaraj Fernandopulle and Anura Bandaranaike under the proportional representation system.
