Communication centre owner shot dead in Jaffna

Two unidentified gunmen on motor cycle opened fire Monday around 7:00 p.m on the owner of a communication centre located in Aadiyapatham Veethi area in Kokkuvil, Jaffna and escaped from the place. The seriously injured man was rushed to Jaffna Teaching hospital where he succumbed to his wounds, sources in Jaffna said.
The victim was identified as Paramanathan Mahendran, 36, unmarried and a brother of four sisters. The killers shot at Mahendran in front of his father who was also in the communication centre. This killing took place around 100 m from the place where Sugantharoopan, who was alleged to be operating with the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Intelligence Unit, was shot and killed by unknown armed men, recently. The killing of a communication centre owner is one among several owners of communication centres killed in Jaffna peninsula in the recent past.
