JVP blames Rajapakse for east crisis

The government led by Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapakse should be held responsible for the burgeoning rift between communities in the east after the Eastern Provincial Council election, the politburo of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said in a statement on the current situation in the east.

"The government used the post of chief minister as a trump card to get more votes from Muslim and Tamil communities at the recent election.

"With the appointment of Pillaiyan as chief minister, the ruling UPFA in the council has lost its majority as three members led by Hisbullah had withdrawn their support to the new administration. Hence the east has been drifting towards another communal riot due to deceptive policies of the government.

"Sri Lanka is in the verge of losing its victories achieved in the east in past due to the ill-conceived policy of the government," JVP statement said.
