SLA position ambushed in Mannaar city

A group of guerrilla fighters lobbed a grenade and opened fire on a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) post located at the public playground on Mannaar - Thalaimannaar Road in Mannaar city in the early hours of Wednesday, at 2:05 a.m., killing one SLA soldier and seriously wounding another, Police said. Tension prevailed in the city as SLA soldiers opened fire from their posts throughout the city continuously for 45 minutes.

The SLA has launched a cordon and search operation in the morning.

The dead body of the SLA soldier was taken to Mannaar hospital. The wounded soldier was also rushed to Mannaar hospital and later taken to Tha'l'laadi base and airlifted to Anurdhapura for further treatment.
