Sri Lanka is becoming developed - President

President Chandrika Bandarananayake Kumaratunge says there are signs that Sri Lanka will soon become a developed country, when considering the benefits that are being achieved due to the streamlined economical policies of the present government.
Addressing a public rally at Polgahawela today the President said that the government had taken a stern decision to acquire planted lands by certain politicians of the previous regime and use it to the welfare of the people. These lands will be utilised for industrial parks and other development projects. Lauding the efforts of the defence sectors and their service in safeguarding the territorial integrity of the country the President said the government is focusing special attention on the families of the soldiers. Several special facilities have been granted to these families. She stressed that a political solution was necessary to solve the ethnic problem in the country. The President added that the government is completely dedicated to implementing the political proposals in this regard.
