MoD spells out JOB mandate

Sri Lanka's Ministry of Defence (MoD) issued a press communiqué this afternoon outlining the functions and duties of the Joint Operations Bureau (JOB) which was established under the chairmanship of Gen. Rohan de S Daluwatte by the Sri Lankan President with a view to prosecuting the war against the Liberation Tigers on a greater professional footing.
The press release said: "1) The Bureau consists of the chairman, the three service commanders and the Inspector General of Police. The directors of operations of the three services and their parallels in the Police will function as associate members of the JOB. This will be staffed by officers from the three services and the Police. The Chairman will work through the respective service commanders for all matters pertaining to operations. The respective service commanders will be responsible to achieve (sic) the objectives/tasks spelt out by the JOB. 2) The JOB will be responsible for the following: a)prepare strategic plans in consultation with the three service commanders and present them to the National Security Council. b) co-ordinate the planning of operations based on the directions given by the National Security Council. c) co-ordinate and control the deployment of resources. d) monitor progress of all operations. e) co-ordinate civil administration where necessary after restoring civil administration."
