Batticaloa Tamil bus driver, conductor arrested in Colombo

Sri Lanka police arrested Friday the driver and the conductor of a private bus that took passengers from Batticaloa to Colombo at Maradana and took them and the bus to Moratuwa police station around 5:00 p.m. The police, when contacted by the owner of the bus, said that the two were brought to the police station for interrogation, the owner of the bus said.
The driver arrested is Rasaiah Sivachandran, 32, a father of a child, from Puthukkudiyiruppu, Batticaloa and the conductor is S. Senukanthan, 24, a resident of Kurukka’lmadam in Batticaloa. The bus, taking passengers from Batticaloa Thursday night, was parked in Maradana Central Theatre parking place Friday morning when the police first arrested the conductor on suspicion and later the driver. Moratuwa police told the owner of the bus that the driver and the conductor were taken in for interrrogation. The bus is one of the private buses serving passengers traveling between Batticaloa and Colombo. Alternative arrangement was made to take the passengers who had reserved seats to travel from Colombo to Batticaloa, the owner of the bus said.
