CaFFE records increasing complaints of election violence

The Campaign For Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE), an election monitoring organization accredited under Sri Lanka's Election Commissioner, said Monday that election related violence in Anuradhapura district is on the increase, and that CaFFE has received 127 complaints from North Central Province (NCP) and Sabragamuwa Province (SP), CaFFE spokesperson Keerthi Tennekone said.
85 complaints were on election related violence while the remaining 42 are related to violation of election laws including misuse of state properties for election campaign. 43 complaints of election related violence have been reported from Anuradhapura district and 16 from Polonnaruwa district in the NCP. 14 complaints have been received from Kegalle district and 12 from Ratnapura district in the SP, Tennekoon said. Meanwhile, Election Department Monday said that the postal delivery of polling cards to registered voters will be completed by 15th August ahead of the NCP and SP Provincial Council elections 23 August. Nearly 45 percent of the polling cards have been delivered and a registered voter of the household should be in the residence to receive the polling cards delivered by postal employees, an election official said.
