19 Tamils arrested in Gampaha, Kandy

Nineteen Tamil civilians were arrested in two separate cordon and search operations conducted by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and police since Sunday evening till morning on Monday at Gampaha and Kandy towns, police sources said.
Eighteen Tamils were taken into custody in Gampaha for questioning when they failed to provide satisfactory response for their stay in the location and prove their identity. The operation was conducted in the areas located close to the Gampaha police station. The suspects are still being detained in the Gampaha police station for further questioning by the Terrorist Intelligence Division (TID). In another search operation conducted surrounding areas of the Kandy police headquarters complex a twenty five year old Tamil youth was arrested on suspicion that he could be member of the LTTE. He is being detained in the Kandy police station, sources said.
