Claymore attack in Jaffna kills SLA soldier

Unknown persons triggered a Claymore device killing a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier and injuring several others Wednesday around 1:00 p.m at Kappooothu area in Charasaalai, Thenmaraadchi. The attack targeted a SLA vehicle transporting soldiers from Kanakam Pu’liyadi Chanththi SLA camp to Kappoothu SLA camp along Chaavakachcheari-Point Pedro main road, sources in Chaavakachcheri said. Meanwhile, a beheaded body of a civilian was found in the very same area Wednesday morning, the sources added.
The killed and injured soldieers were air lifted to Palaali Military Hospital immediately and the exact number of injured soldiers admitted to the hospital has not been officially released. SLA media information, however, said that one soldier had been killed in the Wednesday Claymore attack. SLA launched a cordon and search in the area beyond Kappoothu where the attack took place, blocking traffic on the main road for more than two hours. No one was allowed to travel along the road.
