Two unidentified armed men riding motorbikes abducted a 43-year old civilian from Chandilippaay Wednesday around 3:00 p.m. as he was returning from the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp where he had been summoned for interrogation, the victim’s wife said in a complaint with Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna, civil society sources said.
The man was identified as Muniyandi Thuraisamy, from Ka'n'nakai Amman Veethi, Maasiyappiddi Chandilippaay. SLA soldiers, during the cordon and search conducted following the attack on SLA soldiers in Maasiyappiddi recently, had earlier assaulted Thuraisamy and had confiscated his National Identity Card, his wife Gnaneswari Thuraisamy said in her complaint to the HRC. Gnaneswari said her husband had gone Wednesday for interrogation at the SLA camp and to retrieve his National ID card. Thuraisamy is the third civilian to have been reported missing from Maasiyappiddi area after the attack on SLA soldiers there, local residents said.
