Bus driver shot dead in Vavuniyaa

A 38-year old driver of the Vavuniyaa depot of the Sri Lanka Transport
Board (SLTB) was shot dead by unidentified armed men Sunday evening
near Pa'ndaarikkulam Amman Temple in Vavuniyaa. Armed men waylaid him
and shot the driver when he was riding home in his motorbike after
work, witnesses said.
The victim has been identified as Tharmalingam Arulkumaran. Arulkumaran managed to run to a nearby boutique with gunshot injuries,
but he fell on the floor of the shop. Fellow employees working with him on receipt of information rushed to
the shop and transferred his body to the Vavuniyaa general hospital. Acting Vavuniyaa Magistrate, M.Sittampalam visited the site and ordered
the police to hand over the body to his relatives after postmortem
examination. Arulkumaran was the fourth employee of the Vavuniyaa SLTB deport killed by
unidentified armed men. Earlier three employees of the Vavuniyaa SLTB depot
including its Depot Manager were shot dead. SLTB employees have been agitating for immediate security to perform their
duty without fear.
