Three transformers blasted in Colombo

Powerful explosion destroyed three transformers in Kotahena in the capital Colombo this morning. The Police said transformers at Vasala Road, Jampettah Street and Ginthupity were destroyed between 4.30 and 4.40 a.m.
The officer in charge of the Kotehena police, Bandulle Wijeyawardene, said that it is beieved that a time bomb fixed to the transformers could have caused the blast. The electricity supply in the area has been disrupted due to the explosion. The Police are conducting investigations. This is the second incident during the course of this week. On Monday two transformers were destroyed in the heart of Colombo's business district. Meanwhile sources in Colombo said at least 20 persons were arrested by the Sri Lanka police and army during a combined cordon and search operation in the Kotehena area.
