Amnesty says 4 'disappeared' located

Amnesty International, the human rights watchdog said it has recently learned that Mylvaganam Jayaseelan, one of those listed as missing after being arrested by the PLOTE was released on 3 January 1999 from the Kovilkulam PLOTE camp. Amnesty says it believes he may have been tortured in custody.
He was last seen being taken into custody by members of the People's Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) on 20 December 1998, said Amnesty. Amnesty has also learned that Gunakularasa Danushan, another of those who went missing after being picked up by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) on 22 November 1998, was released after three days, on 25 November 1998. Subramaniam Atpudarasa and Selvarasa Tamilchelvam continue to be held at the "Lucky House" camp, an unofficial place of detention run by members of the PLOTE in Vavuniya, said Amnesty. The whereabouts of the other five persons reported "disappeared" is unknown. They are: Pakiyaratnam Yogeswaran (16), Lakshman Ketheeswaran (22), Nadarasa Rajaratnam (30), Veeraiah Udayakumar (30) and Ponnathurai Ravindran (alias Ravi) said Amnesty.
